Very disappointed not to be able to visit. Despite many “Free admission” signs, it turned out that foreign visitors have to pay NZ$35 each to visit! Apparently this is a recent change. Bad decision NZ! Perhaps consider a donation box instead: for the 1.5 hrs we had available, we would likely have made a donation, but not $70.

Wonderful national museum highlighting the history, people, culture, lands and flora and fauna of New Zealand. You could easily spend a day taking in all that Te Papa has to offer. In particular, Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War exhibition is a stunning presentation sharing the history of New Zealand's role in the Gallipoli battle in World War I. The models, sculptures and other displays in this exhibition brought to life in vivid detail this watershed moment in New Zealand history. This exhibition is worth making a trip to Te Papa alone.

Not really a museum goer despite doing my fair share over the years, however I kept hearing rave review after rave review for Te Papa so figured I had to go.It's hands down the best museum I have been too in the whole Southern Hemisphere, encompassing all senses and extremely interactive with an appeal and understanding for all ages. It was very focused about New Zealand as a country with many elements such as nature, environment and culture. I will remember what I learnt for a very long time.

➡WHAT IS ISLAM ?Islam is an Arabic word which means peaceful, willing submission to the code of conduct by God so Islam is a religion , but it is also a complete way of life. The religion of Islam is the acceptance of and obedience to the teachings of God which He revealed to His last prophet, MuhammadAt the core of Islam is the focus of an individual’s personal relationship with God, their Creator. It encourages a believer to have sustained awareness of God which is a key to lasting happiness.Islam teaches that God is the source of peace. By focusing on this important relationship and following God’s guidance, believers will be able to acquire inner peace and tranquillity. Seeking lasting happiness through other means, such as following one’s desires or the accumulation of material possessions, will never fill the void we have. This need can only be filled with the awareness of God.True contentment is found in acknowledging and obeying the Creator: “Truly, in remembering God do hearts find rest.”Quran 13:28The primary reason for this close relationship is that Muslims have a direct connection with their Creator. There is no intermediary, such as praying to, or through, others, in worshipping God.Islam gives a person a clear perspective on the events that happen in their life, both good and bad, as they are, in fact, tests from God. It encourages a person to understand events in the context of the overall purpose of life, which is to acknowledge God and obey Him. He created humans with intellect and free will to test them as to who will wilfully choose to follow His guidance. This life is an ultimate testing ground and although we cannot control everything that happens to us, we can control how we react. Islam encourages a person to focus on what is in their control, to be grateful to God for blessings, and to be patient during hardships. Patience or gratitude – this is the formula for a happy life.Islam encourages the believer to remain free from the extremes of worldly happiness that may cause one to forget God, and the extremes of sadness that may cause one to lose hope and blame God. By not being overly attached to the material world, a Muslim is empowered not only to better handle any calamities, but to be beneficial and generous to society. This leads to a more balanced and optimistic outlook on life.

Excellent museum for all the ages. Interactive exhibits and the Gallipoli exhibition is one of the best I've seen.

Te Papa is a must! Set in a modern building, the architecture stunning, over several floors. The Gallipoli exhibit was extremely moving, detailed and filled with the real stories of local characters who went off to support the UK, what happened to them, and how they lived the rest of their lives. Created by Peter Jackson of LOTR fame, every detail on the models was life-like and impressive. The museum contains a giant Moa skeleton, over 7 feet tall, various historical artefacts including artwork, Maori clothing, large quantities of maori jewellery and paui stones.

I came in to have a look at the souvenirs at the store to take overseas. On my way out one of the staff (?) ladies ( dressed in black) wanted to know if I had time for a survey. When I declined, she’s said she had a question and wanted to know where i ‘usually live’ !! Is that your new ID process for the ‘International visitor fees .. if one didn’t look New Zealander enough ? She looked like Asian though

We enjoyed the ww1 exhibition, but as far as the museum itself, it wasn't great. A part from the nature section, with birds, insects and fish there wasn't a lot to see. I was embarrassed over hearing some tourists, saying it was more like a kid's place than a museum

If you live in New Zealand, are a student, or have a visa for a specific purpose, it is free, but if you come for tourist purposes, you must pay an entrance fee of $35 per person. It has been free for a while, but the policy is said to have been implemented from September 17, 2023. You can view New Zealand's history and culture in a condensed manner, starting from the 6th floor and going down, starting with modern art, flora and fauna, and the lifestyles of the Maori people. There are also earthquakes and volcanoes, so you can also take time to explore nature. However, the price of $35 is a bit burdensome, so it is recommended only when you have enough time.

Such an awesome place for adults & children. There is so much to see you really need more than a day. The outdoor area is awesome the cave & the sandpit that has dinosaur bones in it is so cool for the kids. Inside the exhibits are so interactive you can touch smell & listen to things. There are so many fun things to do & see here. The cafe is super handy as well. The staff are also very welcoming & helpful.

Te Papa, the National Museum of New Zealand is awesome. My favorites are the exhibition of the battle of Gallipoli of World War I, where New Zealanders fought next to Australian against the Ottoman Empire. The quality is incredible. One reason are the about 2.5 times the size of real humans figures, that were created by the Wētā Studio (the same from the Lord of the Rings or King Kong). Another highlight is the earthquake house, where you are shaked compared to the strength of the Christchurch earthquake. It’s a wonderful museum and I was there several times. Until now, the entry is for free. From 17th September 2024 it shall cost 35NZD for tourists while it is still free for New Zealanders. As far as I know, this entrance fee shall be for a 2-days ticket, that should be necessary when you really want to read almost everything. It’s worth also this 35NZD.

I was absolutely amazed and didn't anticipate such a remarkable experience from a free museum. The museum does an outstanding job of honoring and showcasing New Zealand culture. They provide a comprehensive introduction to the history of the country's founding, and also offer insights into the preservation of its natural environment, indigenous heritage, and much more. It's clear that they have a deep respect for their past and are committed to educating visitors about the importance of conservation and cultural preservation. The depth of information and the quality of the exhibits far exceeded my expectations

AMAZING, is just one word to describe it. With my partner we thought we would spend just the morning visiting the whole museum, but it actually took us just the morning to visit only hall 1 ! And the whole day for the museum. The museum is well decorated with loads of kid friendly activities and overall great user experience. 100% recommend and hope to come again on my next visit to Wellington !

Wonderful!A vast representation of New Zealand. Enjoyed every bit of it. Easily you can cover everything with in two to three hours, the more time you spend the more you learn. Entry is free, there are shop, restaurant so you can take a break and enjoy coffee. There are beautiful rooms with different themes so that you can sit and relax. There is an earthquake room where you can get a little shaking experience when it happens. Nice! I must say it is a must visit place in your bucket list.

What an extraordinary museum. The building itself is a marvel and the collection housed truly superb. I went straight to the top floor as I was interested in the history of the Waitangi Treaty especially with the current protests over its interpretation. The displays and artefacts are well presented and the layout engaging. There are many spaces for younger students and children to learn and play. The history of settlement of the islands is well covered and explained. The use of videos and digital projection is very smart. Entrance to the museum is absolutely free.

An absolute must stop off. We loved this museum! So much to see and do. The Gallipoli exhibition is breathtaking. It was emotional and had me emotional in a lot of areas. The workmanship that has gone into creating these larger than life models is insane. Do yourself a favour and take the time to view this.
