Been coming here for over 20 years. Always been a fab brunch spot. Great menu, excellent food and cool vibes. The coffee was outstanding too!
Love coming here for my monthly catch ups!!! The food is divine and the wait staff are always, kind, accommodating and friendly!!!Best brunch spot!
Good Havana works coffee, Cuban Fidal Feel some cigar aroma would add to dynamics
Me and a two other friends went to this cafe 2 weeks ago. We got greeted at the door quite weirdly, we got seated in a quite awkward spot and asked to move to another table after a few people left the server the came out to take all the dishes and to wipe down the table gave us a bad look and sighed loudly. Then we were greeted by him again he have us our drinks slammed them on the and looked at my parters phone and said “ aw is that you “ loudly. The food is over priced for what it is. If you’re wanting a budget chicken sandwich with barely anything in it. The waffles are over priced for what you’re getting and the iced coffees barely taste like coffee just water and milk and a lot of ice. Overall the experience of the server was a bit much, wouldn’t recommend this place
I was excited to eat here but was disappointed. A staff delivered drinks/food by yelling at the top of his lungs and point at my phone to laugh at photos he's seen. How disrespectful, we were there for a nice get together but was greeted by ignorance. Never again.
Cool spot, service slow, food poor, eggs very undercooked - whites still clear
Always forget about this gem! The staff are just the sweetest, the kai is so yummy. Must make more of an effort to come back here!
I dont visit Wellington often, but when I do it's always good to see Fidels still in Cuba St. Fabulous coffee!!! Always go there for a coffee.
Good selection of breakfast dishes. The burrito and eggs rancheros were very good. We also liked the coffee but special mention to the thick shake black forest mocha, the best I have ever had in my life.
Such a great staple of Wellington. Good coffee and some solid gluten free options. The staff are wonderful 🥰
Always love coming here when visiting Welly. Good coffee, food, friendly and helpful staff. Recommended
Great shake, great coffee, great feast, BEST chicken and waffles!!! We are stuffed!
Food was insane also shout out to Ethan our waiter he was awesome will be coming back when in Wellington
Fidel’s Cafe is an absolute gem! The food is simply outstanding, with every dish bursting with flavour and care in its preparation. The Eggs Benedict is a must-try—perfectly cooked with a rich and creamy hollandaise sauce that’s unforgettable. Don’t miss the smoothies either; they’re fresh, delicious, and the perfect complement to any meal. The décor is another highlight, with a unique and attractive ambiance that makes you feel cozy yet inspired. The service was simply wonderful. The waiter was friendly and very attentive, making the experience smooth and incredibly pleasant. We’ll definitely be coming back—it’s the kind of place you want to revisit again and again!
I love Fidel's but maybe coming on a public holiday isn't a good idea. Waited an hour for the food (which was great, if not a little expensive - $25 for a sandwich!) and the coffees took about 30 minutes and the long black was the worst I've seen in WLG for a LONG time. Disappointing, but they did pull it off my bill. And to top it off, I'm paying 15% surcharge for the average service :(
I’ve been coming here for 30 years and it’s a staple that always delivers. Brunch menu is great and the coffee is superb.
Place use too be a go to spot, now its definitely overpriced, with food being under good quality...
Coffee was excellent! Nice atmosphere. Stoked to see this place still thriving after last frequenting in 2006.
Wasn’t quite what we were expecting to receive when ordering blueberry compot and fried chicken waffles.Firstly the friend chicken waffle was only tenders, barely any candied cashews, one oblong of waffle. A bit disappointing and the tenders weren’t great.Secondly the blueberry compot was only some frozen berries that had been heated. The apple slaw was amazing and overall it was quite yummy.Flat white was great as was the ginger good s#!t.Friendly staff and got a table within 5 mins of lining up.
Strange interactions with the staff members when we needed service. Dirty cutlery, rotten produce and coffee grounds in my coffee? Not how it used to be.EDIT: Yes. I did notify the staff member present about our issues. To elaborate we had dirty cutlery, our glasses had food residue in them and the bench we were sitting at was very dirty. There was food pressed in between the bench and the table hadn't been wiped down either. We ordered two mains and both had greens that were not fresh, old tomatoes and very stale jalapeños and chorizo. The amount of chorizo we got too was extremely disappointing. When we brought our issues up with the staff member working in a polite way we didn't get a response. In the end we were given two muffins from the counter after paying for our meal. Unfortunately these weren't very great either.I used to love fidels and it was one of my top recommendations to anyone visiting but now i'm not so sure.
Superb! This was our first breakfast on our holiday in NZ, and it set the bar very high for everything after. Warm and friendly service from start to finish, and special kudos to the fella whose dad is from Newcastle, UK, for giving us local tips (but sorry mate, the west is still better than the east!).The coffee was perfect and the food was delicious. Perfectly poached eggs with rich hollandaise and a hunk of homemade potato rosti to soak it all up – I'm drooling a little remembering it.We intended to go back to sample more things but never got the chance, but it's definitely high on the list for next time!
The smashed avo toast and coffee were delicious! Glad I got to try the food this time since I only tried their coffee on my first time there last year
I had brunch here with Chicken Waffles. It was very tasty, with a perfect mix of savory, crunchy chicken and sweet waffles filled with honey. The atmosphere was also great.
Great vibes, amazing food and excellent customer service. Shout out to Kenny who made the effort with my 15 month old daughter and kept her entertained. Highly recommend A+
Nice atmosphere, wonderful food for the vegans too, sat outside. Loved it
Very popular place that had people queing to get in. The food was worth it though
So funky. The welcome was amazing and quite bohemian. The food and service were astonishing.A must visit
food was pretty good. but we were seated by a staff member at a large outdoor table for two of us and later asked to move to accommodate a big group after being there 20 minutes. we were moved to a much less comfortable table and our food got lost and forgotten in the process and staff were pretty apathetic about it
The slightly dark interior has a great atmosphere! However, I actually wanted to sit on the terrace, but I ended up choosing a seat inside the restaurant without realizing that there was a terrace in the back...😂Next time I would like to sit on the terrace on a sunny day!Waffle's blueberry was delicious and had just the right amount of sweetness. The bread and burritos next to the cash register looked delicious, so if you're looking for a light meal, be sure to check out the area next to the cash register as well.
Once again an awesome cappuccino and this morning Eggs Bene with Salmon and their heavenly portabello mushrooms.Been here a few times and been impressed with the food and service each time.
Came here to check this place out because the Hobbitses used to love coming here while filming Lord of the Rings. Ended up coming back the next day. The food is fantastic!! The best spot for breakfast in Wellington, bar none.
The huevos rancheros was outstanding. Would love to come back and eat this again. Great coffee, and awesome turmeric latte.Kids menu options available. We sat out the back and loved the heated seats. So much character.Loved it.
Food always good enough when busy. The staff are lovely and very accommodating, especially to the solo diner. Love this place and when the sun is out it is radiating satisfied diner vibes.
A bit upset that FIDEL’S cafe agrees with the government position against WFH. FIDELs cafe against workers rights…. That’s quite shameful
Such a great little place. I can see why it is so popular. Great food and great service. The staff were amazing and the food was delicious!
Such kind staff but the last two times we have come here (one non-busy day with lots of tables free and one busy day) it's been a long wait, not only on coffees and food but also to initially be welcomed and to pay at the end. It's a lovely place if you have the time to spare though!
I LOVE this place the food is amazing great service and pretty fast free WI-FI Parking was a bit pricey though.
Ordered: mighty brisket sandwich, two Fidel's feast, and chicken and waffles. Mojitos, mocha shake.Sanwhich was tasty, Fidel's feast, eggs were cooked perfectly as requested. Substitutions and special requests were perfect and no problem. Chicken and waffles are delish, have ordered before, and came back specifically for this dishStaff were gorgeous and attentive
2024: Had been some what of a regular the last two decades, and not one to post 1 star reviews but had recently experience what Fidel's become. For whatever reason, the lack of service was noticeable.Wait times to be seated, coffee orders taken and to be received, exceeded the 40min mark.Water cups were covered in dust.We didn't even attempt to order food, knowing it was quite the investment on time.Huge let down as I've praised Fidel's through the years.*2009: Delightful brunch affair, with great coffee.****
We had a very nice brunch. Quite busy and a little cramped but good service and excellent food.
Try breakfast burritos at the food counter. The BEST burrito in New Zealand. This cafe is the most favourite place in Wellington!!!! Love this cafe so much.
In my opinion it's quite salty and oily maybe because I am asian.i tried because it was recommended for Thier breakfast but it sort of salty for me . The muffins are great for me and I forgot to take a picture of it as I was way too hungry and I got to say the mushroom tastes so so good for their main course brunch. The pie is crunchy.
The avo toast was amazing! Lovely staff and decorations. I wonder how they came up with the theme.
Very nice Cafe with a decent amount of food choices. The food is very good and the shakes are the best we had in NZ.If you are Wellington, going to Fidel's is recommended.
Best thick shakes in town, although you’ll pay for it at $11. But worth it. We tried their big breakfast and Caesar salad too. Both delicious. Get there early because it does get really busy after 10am. It’s a little cold in winter because half their space is outdoors too. Enjoy!
